Phone Friendly Web Pages
-
We have written some special phone friendly web pages to
give you club information on your mobile phone or PDA.
-
We have designed a website with very small simple pages
so that the data will fit on the small screen of your
phone and more important to keep the cost low.
-
The phone friendly pages will have the same data as the main site but
formatted for phone access
-
To see what it might look like on a typical phone size screen click
the link below.
-
Browse the links to see a few of features we intend to
include before you try it on your phone
-
We have not simulated a menu bar in the demo because all phones are
different. To close the simulation, click the cross top
right as usual.
How to try the pages on your phone
- All phones are a bit different, you may have to read the instructions for your phone to find how to access the web
- The address for the home page of the club phone friendly site is
www.mobile.harlowrugbyclub.co.uk
- Most phones will let you bookmark it for future use.
- View a few pages and see how it works, look for options on your phone which may make it easier to use.
A few reasons why are we doing it
- Nearly 80% of our members have phones with web access but very few use it, probably because
there are very few websites designed to work well on a phone or contain information they need. We aim to change that.
-
Every day we get phone calls and texts from people who
are away from their computer and need club information which
is on the web site.
-
People often phone us when lost on the way to an away game, these
pages have directions and contact details of the clubs we
play
- Some of our members rely on club web access on their work machine and are cut off at the weekend.
-
Teams can use the web pages to send in results from
their phone as soon as the game finishes.
-
You can use your phone from anywhere to get all the
results for the weekend.
-
You will have a virtual club handbook in your phone. AND
IT WILL BE UPDATED DAILY
What will it cost to use
-
It depends on your phone contract but for some users it
could be cheaper than a phone call or text. Read the small print on your contract or ask your phone
provider.
-
Try a small experiment: Monthly contract users test view a few pages and then see
what appears on your next bill. Pay as you go customers, check your balance, view a few
pages and check again.
-
Phone web access is normally charged per kilobyte of data
download not for the time you are online.
-
We have designed our pages to be small, almost all below
2.5Kb, some below 1kb. On some phone contracts this should mean as low as 1p per page BUT CHECK YOUR CONTRACT they vary a lot.
-
Some pay monthly contract phones include some download
for free; eg 0.5Mb on O2 which should let you view over
100 of our small pages
- Although our pages are small most normal web pages are much larger and hence expensive.
Think carefully before you start wandering around pages beyond our club site.
